About Chabad of Shenzhen

Since 2006, a home for the local Jewish community and for Jewish visitors from around the world.

Our story

In 2006, Rabbi Shalom and Henny Chazan were invited by Rabbi Mordechai Avtzon of Chabad Hong Kong to establish Chabad of Shenzhen. What began as a place to pray has grown into the heart of the local Jewish community and a home away from home for the many visitors who pass through the city.

Some people come to Shenzhen for a few days; others make their lives here. Every day, Jews from all walks of life come to pray, share a meal, learn, or simply sit and talk. We aim to give each person a sense of belonging and a warm connection to Jewish life.

Chabad of Shenzhen (sometimes spelled Shenzen or Shen Zhen, in Chinese 深圳) is located in Shekou, in the south of the city.

Inspired by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, our work begins with personal connection and care for every Jew. Explore the practical information on this site, and come meet us in person.

Inspired by the Rebbe

Chabad-Lubavitch is a Chassidic movement founded about 250 years ago. The word Chabad stands for chochmah, binah and da'at: wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Today thousands of Chabad Houses around the world, including about ten in China, carry forward the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994): that no Jew should ever feel alone.
